Working with Arabic text in Agility Email Distributions

How to correctly format right-to-left languages in Agility

Updated this week

When working with Arabic or other right-to-left (RTL) languages in Agility email distributions, you may encounter formatting issues—especially when text is copied directly from Microsoft Word. Word often adds hidden styling code that no online editor (including Agility) can interpret cleanly.

To ensure your Arabic text appears correctly, follow the steps below to remove all Word formatting before pasting into Agility.

🔹 Why You Should Avoid Copy–Paste from Word

Copying text directly from Word can transfer hidden formatting that:

  • Disrupts right-to-left alignment

  • Causes layout inconsistencies

  • Makes the text difficult to edit inside Agility

Using a plain-text editor removes all hidden formatting before importing the text.

🔹 Step-by-Step Guide to Preparing Arabic Text

Step 1: Open a Plain-Text Editor

Use Notepad (Windows), TextEdit (Mac), or any plain-text editor that supports text direction changes.

Step 2: Switch the Editor to Right-to-Left Mode

In Notepad (Windows):
Right-click the page → Select Right-to-left reading order.

In TextEdit (Mac):

  1. Format → Make Plain Text

  2. Format → Text → Writing Direction → Right to Left

Step 3: Clear All Word Formatting

  • Select your full Arabic text in Word

  • Copy and paste it into the plain-text editor

  • This removes all hidden Word formatting

Step 4: Transfer Text into Agility

Copy the cleaned text from your plain-text editor and paste it into the Agility email editor.

The text may initially display left-to-right—this is normal.

🔹 Step-by-Step: Formatting the Text Inside Agility

Step 5: Apply Right-to-Left Alignment

Select all your pasted text → Set alignment to Right to Left.

Step 6: Apply the Arabic Language Setting

With all text still selected, apply the Arabic language option.

Your Arabic content should now display correctly and consistently.

🔹 Important Notes

  • When text is moved through a plain-text editor, all embedded links are removed.
You will need to re-add hyperlinks manually after formatting.

  • After the text is cleaned and aligned, you may apply any additional styling (font, size, spacing, etc.) in Agility without issue.
