🔹 Create Topics Using Natural Language

Creating a topic starts with a simple description of the coverage you want to monitor.

Hover over the Media Monitoring tab and click New Search. The Topic Agent prompt field will be visible at the top of the page under Search with PR CoPilot™. Type your request directly into the field that reads Describe what to search for.

For example:

"Monitor media coverage of the short-term rental industry, focusing on travel trends, consumer sentiment, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory developments in North America."

Topic Agent analyzes your request and begins preparing a topic designed to capture relevant coverage.

🔹 Writing Effective Prompts

Topic Agent works best when you clearly describe what coverage you want to monitor.

While simple requests can work, providing additional context helps the AI create more relevant searches.

For example, instead of:

Monitor coverage of short-term rentals.

Try:

Monitor media coverage of the short-term rental industry, focusing on travel trends, consumer sentiment, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory developments in North America.

Including details such as:

  • Topics of interest

  • Geographic regions

  • Industries

  • Audience focus

  • Coverage types

  • Timeframes

helps Topic Agent better understand your objectives.

If your results are not what you expected, review your prompt before trying again. Prompts that are too broad or do not specify a subject, region, or objective may produce generic topics and analysis.

If Topic Agent asks follow-up questions during the context-gathering phase, answering them will improve the output.

🔹 Provide Additional Context

To improve search quality, Topic Agent may ask follow-up questions.

The AI uses these questions to better understand your objectives and create a more focused search.

Possible follow-up questions may include:

  • Are there specific regions you want to monitor?

  • Are you interested in consumer, business, or regulatory coverage?

  • Is there a particular time period you want to focus on?

Suggested answers may be provided automatically, but you can modify, remove, or skip any question.

Tip: The more context you provide, the better Topic Agent can understand your objectives and generate relevant results.

🔹 AI-Powered Search Creation

Once enough information has been collected, Topic Agent automatically:

  • Builds a Boolean search

  • Searches available coverage

  • Evaluates search quality

  • Identifies irrelevant coverage

  • Refines the search when necessary

This helps create a more relevant starting point while reducing manual search refinement.

🔹 Review and Save Your Topic

After the search has been generated, you can review all topic settings before saving.

This includes:

  • Boolean search logic

  • Sources

  • Regions

  • Languages

  • Sentiment filters

  • Topic configuration settings

All generated topics remain fully editable.

When you are satisfied with the topic settings, click Save Search As Topic. Your topic will become active and begin collecting matching coverage.

🔹 Topic Purpose

When a topic is saved, your original natural language request is automatically stored in the Topic Purpose field.

This helps document why the topic was created and provides additional context for future topic management and AI-powered workflows.

🔹 Refine Existing Topics

Topic Agent can also help update existing topics.

  1. Hover over the Media Monitoring tab and click Topics.

  2. Open the topic you want to update.

  3. Click Edit with Topic Agent.

  4. Describe the change you want to make. For example:

    • Add French-language coverage

    • Expand regional coverage

    • Focus on online news sources

    • Include additional industry topics

  5. Click Go. Topic Agent will generate an updated version of the topic for you to review before saving.
